  • Recognizing webbrowser cloud games

    Hello,
    Sooner or later we will reach point where cloud gaming will be comfortable for everyone. I think it is worth to implement recognizing games from web browser in reWASD now. I know that it's possible to configure every gamepad config for "Desktop", but it is not really user-friendly solution. Recognizing webbrowser games could be another unique feature for reWASD. Additionally, cloud configs can be linked to already created configs, so we will not have to create special categories for "cloud gaming". I did some research, so maybe it will be helpful.

    How can it work?
    reWASD will be recognizing if Chrome/Edge/"other browser based on chromium" is active and title of this activated tab is the same as title defined in reWASD. Eg. opening tab with name "LARA CROFT AND THE TEMPLE OF OSIRIS® on GeForce NOW" in Chrome will activate "Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris" config. "Desktop" config can be activated back when Chrome will be minimized/closed. If it cannot work as scanning titles, maybe it will be worth to create agent application which will be scanning active webbrowser tabs and sending signal to reWASD that cloud game has been activated, time to change profile.

    GeForce Now
    * https://play.geforcenow.com/
    Title of activated tab is changing according to started game eg. "The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition on GeForce NOW". It think it's easy to implement. Every gamepad signal is emulated to Xbox 360 controller, but supports Keyboard/Mouse, so basic controls we can enhance with K/M options. eq. PS button is not recognized, so it would be helpful to rebind it to shift+tab or other shortcut.

    xCloud
    * https://www.xbox.com/en-US/play
    Easy case. Title of activated tab is visible like this: "Grand Theft Auto V | Xbox Cloud". Supports only Xbox gamepads, so additional buttons can be only Xbox combos.

    xCloud
    * https://amazon.com/luna
    Title of activated tab: "Amazon.com: Play Ghostrunner". This one I was unable to test. Supports Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Luna gamepads and Keyboard/Mouse. I am unable to test it, so I don't know if Dualshock 4 support works in Chrome properly. But on their website they wrote that it works.

    Stadia
    * https://stadia.google.com/
    Difficult case. Stadia is not mentioning game in title or even address bar. Div in library shows game name in code: aria-label="View Borderlands®3.". Maybe some chromium extension will be able to display pressed div as title or send signal to reWASD in different way. But for now not possible to recognize it in easy way. Unfortunately, this service supports nearly every mainstream gamepad (Google, Playstation, Xbox, Nintendo) except Steam Controller. Implementation of Stadia could be much more exciting than other platforms. But again - not easy.

    Other cloud services I don't know but are worth to investigation:
    Maybe this idea is not very important, but would help many cloud gamers. We know that reWASD is able to help them already, but they have to know what application is and how it works. It's not that obvious. Official support for webbrowser games and saying "yes, we can easy remap your controller in games run in Chrome/Edge and profiles change automatically based on selected game" can invite her new reWASD fans. Bonus, new overlays will work without any problems for games ran in web browsers. <3

    Hello there!

    We appreciate the suggestion. Still, it is very hard to implement as for that we have to integrate in the browser itself.

    Anyway, your suggestion is noted. We will consider it for the future. Thank you!
