V6.2.1 added support for the trackball mode on steam controller touchpads, a step in the right direction, but otherwise there are some limitations to the configuration of a touchpad when compared to a joystick.
Joysticks have high-medium-low "zones" in particular, and the steam controller touchpad doesn't seem to have this, and it should! In fact, a touchpad can support zones in a way triggers and joysticks cannot: A user can touch a touchpad at the outside edge and apply the "high zone" without having to first incrementally press the "low" and "med" zones.
Steam controllers can also support zones while emulating a dpad (as opposed to using zones with an analog axis only).
