Steam Controller trouchpads have very limited joystick configurations.

The steam controller touchpads allow setting as left or right joystick, however the joystick is missing a lot of settings compared to a physical joystick. Specifically: there's no "zones" settings.

Can the devs enable the steam controller touchpads set as a joystick, but with all the features of a physical joystick?

The trackpad or touchpad of a controller is physically very different from sticks. Therefore, it is not possible to recreate identical settings now.
But this feature is in our plans, and we will be happy to announce when it will be implemented.

Yes please. I don't think the steam controller support has seen an update for something like a year now, and it would be much appreciated. Sony controllers continue to use touchpads so the work to support them would be generally applicable in the long term (and not just for a niche product like the steam controller).
