In my experience every program that allows mapping a DualSense controller to a virtual Xbox 360 pad has one of two distinct feels to the rumble:
- A sharp, intense, vibration;
- Or, a softened, smoothed, rumble.
Steam in particular is very inconsistent with this, with a DualSense plugged in through Bluetooth having the soft vibrations and one plugged in through USB having the sharp ones.
The only program I found that allows choosing between these two vibration "profiles" is DS4Windows. It labels the sharp setting as "Legacy" and the softened setting as "Accurate".
ReWASD seems to have only the sharp (Legacy in DS4Windows) vibrations when mapping a DualSense controller to a virtual Xbox 360 pad. The difference can be felt very easily by playing a game with the output being a virtual x360 pad in ReWASD (the vibrations will start and end very quickly) then changing the output to the physical DualSense and enabling Steam Input (the vibrations will become smoothed, being more rumbly and feeling more authentically like a non-haptic controller).
I personally much prefer the feel of the softer rumble, and I think it feels closer to the feel of a non-haptic controller (although the vibrations seem to become slightly less intense).
It would be awesome if ReWASD supported switching to these softer vibrations (I imagine it'd fit well in the output device settings under "Physical DualSense").
I took a glimpse at the way DS4Windows implemented the rumble modes, and the only thing thing changing the toggle in the settings seems to do is change a single value sent
to the controller. With this in mind, it looks like this feature should be very easy to implement (although I'm not sure if the firmware requirements would create issues with un-upgraded controllers).
