  • [Feature Request] Ability to paste external text into Combo Editor

    Hello reWASD team,

I would like to request a feature to paste text directly from external sources (like Chrome or Notepad) into the Combo Editor.

Currently, Ctrl+V only works for internal reWASD nodes.

It is very inconvenient that I cannot simply paste a text string.

Please consider adding this function in the next update.

    Thank you.

reWASD remaps at the device level, meaning it receives input from the device and sends the mapping you select in the config on that same level. To get a specific text, reWASD literally has to type it out, and it's not as easy as CTRL+C and CTRL+V. The app must be aware of the current keyboard layout, hold SHIFT when required, and use ALT+Numbers to type characters that aren't on the current layout. This would require a very complex converter and might just not be worth the time required for its development.

Adding a "Paste a text" command mapping could be an alternative, but I can't tell whether it would be simpler to implement.

TLDR: This request is not as easy as it seems at first glance. You might want to look for an alternative app for pasting big texts via shortcuts.

You might find Text Blaze to be a suitable tool for such purposes. It's primarily a Chrome extension but they also have a desktop app that is pretty solid despite being still in Beta. There's a free tier that should be more than sufficient for your requirements.

I can also tell you that they're a very serious company as I worked with them remotely for a number of years. Most of the video content you'll find on the youtube channel (around 2024 and earlier) is probably by me.
