  • ReWASD Basic: Toggle Shift Layers

I uninstalled reWASD sometime ago, and I'm now messing around with reWASD Basic to try and gain back the functionality I had with the full version of reWASD. I used a dedicated Windows Shift Layer, along with a 3rd shift layer to swap between standard vs lefty controls. One thing I relied on for this purpose was the 'Toggle' option under Shift Layers, which seems to be completely absent in reWASD Basic.

Will the Toggle Mode be added to reWASD Basic soon? Currently the only option is Hold shift layer, which is not ideal:

Hi. No. reWASD Basic is a simplified version of the reWASD, so it lacks most of the functionality.

Right, however what real difference in functionality does Toggle mode enable that the existing Hold mode doesn't? Aside from the method of activation. I feel as though adding the Toggle mode doesn't add anything that would interfere with the goal of Basic, being that it isn't a gameplay "enhancing" feature. It simply is an alternative method to switch between Shift layers, which is still a supported feature in reWASD Basic. The only real difference is activation method, but the feature itself is the same. Hold requires that I hold down an activator physically, which complicates the ability to have a "Windows Desktop" layer, while Toggle would allow me to comfortably operate the controller in either layer.

From the user perspective it is seems like a 'Basic' level feature that should be included.

        It's much simpler:
Turbo/Toggle are part of the Rapid Fire functionality. In regular reWASD this is an additional functionality. Therefore, they're not available in reWASD Basic.

We might reconsider this in the future, but I can't promise anything.

I see. So you're saying that the toggle shift layer feature could be abused to emulate rapid fire input? If that's the case then that makes sense, as to why it isn't included. That said, there surely has to be a way to prevent this loophole and enable something similar to a 'toggle' feature? For example, disable existing input upon toggle activation, or add some other way to switch layers. Even if there is a delay in the toggle to achieve this, it would be preferable to having to hold down an activator.

With that context around my intent to switch layers for different purposes (i.e. gameplay vs. Windows Desktop), could there perhaps be a way to achieve the 'toggle' functionality in another way then?
