I can't use Chat in-game because of my mappings. I have tried Ctrl + Alt + Del to toggle mapping off and on - it is inconsistent. Is there a way to map a key, say F6, to toggle the active mapping on and off? Shift is not a good choice as holding a button to shit to an empty slot makes it difficult to type. I did several searches and couldn't find a solution.

Shift is really an amazing option here, but only if you have the Toggle enabled for it. With a toggle feature you can toggle the shift activation, so the hold is not needed anymore.

In any other case, you can also use Slots feature, as it allows you to switch configs with a key or a combination of keys.
