I've checked reWASD virtual controller and Xbox app on my side. The app sees Xbox Virtual Controller without any issues.
I assume it may not work on your side for two reasons
1. There is third-party remap software on your PC that prevents reWASD from normal operation.
2. Something is wrong with your config. Please send me your config

Understood, although I am wanting to play my Xbox console through remote play. This is the trouble that I am having.

1. If you want to connect to your physical console, then you need an ESP32-S2 adapter. This cannot be done without an adapter.
Please check out this article.
2. If you want to play using XCloud on your PC, then your console is not involved in this process.
Please check out this article.

At this stage there is a little confusion.
Do you want to use our Virtual Xbox controller on your PC while playing console games through Xbox Cloud Gaming? Or do you want to play on a physical Xbox console?

Hey man,
So, when I connect my rewasd my Xbox app recognises my keyboard and mouse as a controller yet I'm getting no response on my Xbox console while I use the inbuilt x cloud from rewasd, it makes no sense.
I apologise if it feels like I'm carrying on but I really want to play starfield on my Xbox console.

You need to go to the Virtual Controller settings and try changing the selected virtual controller to another Xbox controller. As shown in the screenshot above. Perhaps this will help solve the issue.
Please don't forget to re-apply the config for the changes to take effect.
Also, you need to go to Preferences, select the Gamepads section, and ensure that the "Hide physical controller when virtual one is created" is checked.

I believe it's due to the xcloud on rewasd. I remember trying to create a configuration for Xbox and having the same problem but when I used the default x cloud it started working. Is there a way to re initialise the default x cloud?

1. Forget about the adapter. You don't need it.
2. Could you try to use another virtual controller?
3. Please specify - is our virtual controller doesn't work in the xCloud app at all or just in a game?
Also, I would be glad if you send a screenshot of joy.cpl after applying the config.

I'm wanting to play the Xbox console using Xcloud.
Some people told me that I could only play it using the adapter but I was able to play using Xcloud, for some reason it's not working this time.

Please answer the question in more detail. We don't understand what exactly you want to achieve.
Are you connecting to your Xbox console or do you want to use Xbox game pass on PC?

1. Does the virtual controller work correctly with the applied config in the tester? Yes 2. Are you trying to use the virtual controller on PC or connecting to the console using the ESP32-S2 adapter? I am not using the ESP32-S2 adaptor as I am using the xcloud.
3. Does the issue occur in other applications or only with the Xbox game pass? It seems to only happen with the Xbox.
