How does Replace work in Combination editor?

I see the command to replace a key, but it's disabled. I've tried to copy another node, but nothing goes to clipboard to enable the command. I can't select a command from the GUI below without adding it to the sequence, so pre-selecting to replace won't work either.

Replace does exactly what it says: nodes currently stored in the exchange buffer will replace the selected node(s). If nothing is copied, the option will stay disabled.
