  • Unwanted Virtual DS4

I've noticed recently I've been having an issue that wasn't previously a problem.

Every time I go to play a Steam game , Steam says that I have a DualShock 4 connected as well as whatever controller I actually have connected.
I've been playing a few games with my Elite Series 2 , and my DualSense Edge, and for both of them, even with having Steam input Disabled, when I hit the home button and go to the steam big picture overlay sometimes it flashes the old DS4 button glyphs in the overlay controls and it says that along with whatever controller I'm actually using, that a DS4 is connected.

This is causing a bunch of issues like sometimes when I exit games I can't control the Steam UI with my current controller because focus somehow got shifted to the non present DS4 and I have to click with my mouse back on the steam UI to get my actual controller to register again. And for a few games it's like it's sensing the phantom DS4 as the player 1 controller so my connected controller doesn't work right, or a plugged in DualSense won't operate correctly with all the DualSense bells and whistles like haptic feedback, adaptive triggers etc.

I noticed that if I go into Bluetooth devices one of the things i see is "Virtual DualShock for reWASD". But I haven't even used any profiles that are using a virtual DS4. If I click on the Wand icon it shows the virtual controllers menu and Physical XBOX Elite 2 , or Physical DualSense are toggled on, but Virtual DS4 is not toggled on, regardless that I'm remapping the physical pads.

Both controllers will resume operating normally if I go into Bluetooth devices and Remove the "Virtual DualShock for reWASD" , but I'm not sure why it's there on boot up in the first place. So I've been going into BT Devices menu and removing it after every fresh boot to avoid the issues and so it doesn't show up in Steam. Shouldn't it only show up in devices when I'm actually using a profile that utilizes a virtual DS4? Is there any way to prevent it from being created automatically and only use it when the profile specifically uses it, and then remove the virtual pad when said profiles close? i was thinking that when remapping a DualSense that it sent actual DualSense button presses, am i wrong and it uses a virtual DS4 for remapped buttons when using a physical DualSense? I'm not sure how that could be the case, cuz when I remove the Virtual Dualshock from BT Devices the controllers start working right even with all the remaps and macros.

I'm not sure what changed, but i don't seem to recall having these issues before. Maybe I bumped a setting without realizing it?
Any insights or ideas on how to fix these issues?

P.S. not sure if it's relevant but I also noticed that sometimes "Virtual DualShock for reWASD" doesn't show up in BT devices and instead just "Wireless Controller" shows up, when it says Wireless Controller, same thing, if I remove it then the other controller operate the way they're supposed to, and no virtual DS4 shows up in Steam .
