  • Minimum movement threshold for gyro improvements

I bought ReWASD recently, and I like it overall, but I wish that the Minimum Movement Threshold functionality for gyro behaved more like Steam's implementation of the same setting. In Steam, after you make a big enough movement to pass the minimum movement threshold, any additional movements are totally smooth, fluid, and precise. With the ReWASD implementation of this setting, the movements are always "grainy" and "jerky," and lacking precision or fluidity. With Steam, I can use a a minimum movement threshold setting of 4-5 to stabilize my movements and still have good, fine, aiming ability. Just a suggestion, but I think the Minimum Movement Threshold setting could be more like Steam's implementation.

I don't use Steam for remapping purposes, so I'm not sure what you are talking about

If you want to set up a "deadzone" for the gyro, you can do so via the Response curve in the Advanced settings of the gyro mapping.

I know how to set up the deadzone in ReWASD. I'm suggesting that they change the way the Minimum Movement Threshold functionality works to be more like the way Steam has it implemented.

        Noted.
        Thanks for the suggestion.

I don't know if it's a related issue, but I find that Gyro movement is very inconsistent and have tendency to stick to axis if there's any deadzone or anti-deadzone involved in it's settings. pretty much makes it unusable in games that require setting anti-deadzone.

Hi. Please make sure that your gyro is correctly calibrated; recalibration may help with your issue.

Gyro is definitely calibrated (on gamepad itself) and been tested to not drift for instance when mapping it to mouse and there are no deadzones (or just tiny bit of inner), I also tried manual calibration in ReWASD vs Auto-calibration in cases where it doesn't work well, doesn't help at all. Steam input also struggles in similar manner when you try to apply anti-deadzone for right joystick response curve, and try to use gyro to control right stick as well. There must be some solution to this, because if I use on-board gyro aiming on my gamepad (it basically controls right stick in square shape inside the circle), it works well even if I apply anti-deadzone in ReWASD or Steam. There are still reasons I would like to use Gyro via mapping software

Unfortunately, the [Responce Curve] is the only modifier we have for gyro-to-stick mappings.

The gyro deadzone would be the first non-zero dot (1) on the Y axis. The value of the next dot (2) would be the anti-deadzone for the stick it is remapped to.

well there's deadzone setting in the Zone Shape, in Sensitivity settings for Gyro output, as well as being able to set it as in your screenshot. unfortunately, in a game where for example I have to set my right joystick response curve starting with ~8000 on first value at 0 on X axis, from which the line goes up in somewhat linear fashion, the same kind of curve doesn't work out for Gyro, no matter what other settings I tried, including Linear acceleration and acceleration multiplier in Gyro output settings. I also tried all kinds of response curve shapes for Gyro in this situation and always end up with very rough response in game, where there's no smoothness to small movement at all, most of small moves seem to be filtered out and then slightest acceleration on movement is exaggarated or very jittery.
if I simply map gyro to mouse, it works as expected in linear settings. or if game actually supports 0 deadzones and I don't have to compensate for it, then it would also work alright when mapped to right joystick.

It's a specific aspect of the emulated gyroscope. There is no way to fix it in the current version of reWASD. However, I believe reWASD developers will improve it in the future.

                    Thank you for your feedback
