  • reWASD + reWASD Basic: Toggle Windows On-screen Windows Keyboard

When I used reWASD previously, I set a combo key to activate the Windows on-screen Keyboard, within my dedicated Windows Shift Layer. I have since uninstalled reWASD and switched over to reWASD Basic, and since there is no dedicated 'Show Keyboard' option in the mapping menus, I have lost the ability to pop-up the on-screen keyboard for input - since there is no dedicated option for this in the mapping menu. I do think that an option for 'Toggle Windows Keyboard' should be present s a mappable action, in both reWASD regular and Basic. This enables us to enter text using the Windows keyboard on occasion, which I find better to use and less limited than the Steam keyboard (especially with a 'Dualpakka' Gyro config).

The combo to activate / deactivate this on-screen keyboard in Windows is: Windows Key + CTRL + O (see image below)

Additionally, when I previously had programmed this combo, I added a 50ms vibration at the end to receive haptic feedback upon activating the keyboard. While my primary feature request here is just for the ability to activate the keyboard hotkey through a standard selectable mapping input, I think the option to add a haptic feedback vibration for any mapping in both reWASD / reWASD Basic would be nice as well.

Hi. We currently have no plans to expand the functionality of reWASD Basic. Furthermore, reWASD Basic is a simplified version of reWASD, so it's expected that some features are not available. This is by design.

My request still stands as a feature request for regular reWASD as well. Also, I understand that reWASD Basic was limited in design, but what I don't understand is why you would totally abandon a brand new product, that seems to be missing Basic features that don't conflict with its design goal (basic feature set that doesn't have exploitative features). This Basic version incentivizes users like myself to purchase it, because they don't want to use a software associated with cheating (i.e. reWASD regular).

I do have a full lifetime license for regular reWASD, and I loved the software as a daily user for years. It has been an amazing tool that has allowed me to enable left-handed controls across any game (including emulators) and control my living room PC for a console style experience. However... I uninstalled it because while it has not explicitly been stated by EA, it is likely the reason I got permanently banned from BF6 on all platforms. I saw myself and others in the reWASD community voice their concerns, since many of us were in fact reWASD users that got banned from BF6 simultaneously. Now, whether or not reWASD truly had anything to do with all of these bans, there now exists valid concerns and weariness around using the full version of the original reWASD software, due to certain features being exploitable in online competitive games (macros, anti-recoil, etc.).

Several of us pitched the idea of a Basic version of the software, that didn't have those gameplay "enhancing" features that are inherently be associated with cheating and soon after the Basic version was announced. So yes, as a long-time user, I think many others like myself were happy to see that the reWASD team came up with a Basic version that separates itself from those exploitative features... but at the same time we still wanted a program that packaged the core functionality around what made reWASD what it really is: a great tool for accessibility, gamepad compatibility, and a valid tool for Windows Desktop control.

I say all this to explain that from my perspective, I just don't understand how you could launch a Basic version, seemingly targeted for users like myself, without any plans for support or at the very least inclusion of what are definitely 'Basic' level features (that don't incorporate any risk of exploitation). I do appreciate the team's hard work and effort over the years, and appreciate the ability to voice my concern and have you take the time to read it. reWASD is a fantastic product, and I just hope the team can take a step back and consider the whole picture here when it comes to the Basic version, as it seems half-baked in its current state.
